The Trek Domane SLR 7 Disc Road Bike Gen 4 is light and fast, with a healthy dose of comfort and versatility thrown in for good measure.
The key to its versatility is the Gen 4 frame. Made from 800 Series OCLV Carbon it is light and stiff where necessary with improved Kammtail tubing for better aerodynamics, yet Trek’s IsoSpeed concept provides cossetting comfort on rough roads and lanes. When coupled with the Bontrager Pro IsoCore handlebar, it greatly reduces fatigue and discomfort caused by poor surfaces, making the bike quicker for longer. The bike’s geometry also reflects its performance-comfort aims, with figures that are ideal for long endurance style rides without blunting its speed on shorter loops.
Clearance for tyres up to 38mm offers the opportunity to fit some wide rubber and venture off the tarmac onto traffic-free trails whilst the integrated mudguard mounts make it a viable year-round option. The frame also includes Trek’s internal downtube storage that is hidden beneath the bottle cage, and with space for a few tools and an inner tube, it keeps the weight low down and out of jersey pockets.
Bontrager’s Aeolus Pro 37 OCLV Carbon are a good match for the frame, with stiff, lightweight 37mm deep rims that are quick on the climbs and aerodynamic at speed. They are paired with 32mm wide R3 Hard-Case Lite for plenty of grip and cushioning on all road surfaces and as both wheels and tyres are tubeless-ready, they are all ready to be converted.
Operating exactly the same as Shimano’s range-topping groupset, the Ultegra R8100 drivetrain is electronic, so works flawlessly at a light touch of the lever and provides rapid, accurate shifts no matter how much power is going through the pedals. The 12-speed, 11-34 cassette and 50/34 chainset offer a wide range of ratios that suit the bike’s protean character without uncomfortable gaps between the gears.
